About the Mazda RX8
In 2004 Mazda introduced the RX8 as the successor to the popular RX7. Reviving the use of its rotary
engine. The 1.3 liter Wankel spun out as much as 247 horsepower and revved to an amazing 9000rpms for those with the 6 speed manual
transmission. For 2004 and 2005 the RX8 featured a 4 speed automatic transmission and in 2006 it was improved to a 6 speed automatic. Most of the RX8 remained the same until 2009 when the second generation was introduced. The body was restyled with changes to the
headlights to make them higher quality. The front and rear
bumpers were redesigned for more of an aggressive look. Also, the body was reinforced to provide a stiffer chassis and the car was fitted with a larger
exhaust. More
wheel options were added among the three available trims: Sport, Grand Touring, and R3. In 2012 the RX8 was retired.
