About the Acura Integra

Introduced to the US market in 1986, the Acura Integra was well received. It came as a 2 or 4 door hatchback and a 4 door sedan. It came standard with a revolutionary DOHC 1.6 liter engine that had 113hp compared to the 90hp of its nearest competing 4 cylinder. Mostly coming from the Civic model, its suspension and braking components were upgraded in several areas to increase performance. The front disc brakes were enlarged and the drums were replaced with disc brakes in the rear. The Integra could accelerate from 0-60 in 9.5 seconds and run a 16 second quarter mile.  Production numbered around 228,000 units for the first generation of the Integra. In 1990 the second generation was released. It came with a new 1.8 liter DOHC engine known a B18 or B-Series engine and the 4 door hatch was dropped. About 262,000 second gen Integras were sold.

In 1994 the Third Generation of the Integra came along with major changes to the body and drivetrain. The headlights were rounded and the fenders, bumpers, tail lights and quarter panels completely changed shaped from the second gen. Available were now many trims. The RS, LS, GS, GS-R and the Type R. The GS-R made about 170 horsepower  while most of the middle of the road models made about 140hp. The highly sought after Type R was introduced in 1997 as a race inspired version of the Integra. It had a tuned 1.8 liter B18C5 engine that had about 195hp.  The Type R also had an upgraded transmission for a better driving experience. The third generation ended in 2001 for the US market and sold around 300,000 vehicles total.
